The Day I set fire to the calculator

20th July 2010

20 Points

Thursday was quite a normal day: return to work, although Sachsenring is a weird circuit. It is quite a short track (like Laguna Seca) and the Paddock isn’t defined. Instead of being grouped together, you must cross 2 tunnels to go from the hospitality area to the box. But what matters here is the track and although it does not suit me very well, 20 points after the race is a great result.

On Sunday, it was the first day you could say I did use the calculator! Thankfully the 2nd place I got in Germany is still my worst result of the season.

Randy, allez.

I want to send my best wishes to Randy de Puniet who was seriously injured on Sunday at Sachsenring in the multiple crash that meant the race was red flagged and had to be stopped.  I hope he recovers as quickly as possible because he was doing very well this season, with regular appearances at the front of the grid.

2 parts

Practice sessions this time happened in wet conditions, something I didn’t really want to happen. Wet asphalt breaks the setting of the bike and you must be alert for any unforeseen circumstances.  But for this I have Ramón Forcada and the boys, who have returned to carry out a fantastic job.

It was the first time this season that we had to restart a race after a red flag. It was like racing in 2 parts, like in Superbikes, but without scoring for each one.

Jay Leno & ‘Twitter’

We have just landed in the United States. Laguna Seca and its corkscrew are waiting for us but today, Yamaha USA is taking us to see the famous Jay Leno show.  Afterwards, he has invited us to his house so we can see his collection of cars and motorcycles. I will tell you all about it this week.

Tomorrow, we are visiting the ‘Twitter’ headquarters in Los Ángeles, just before moving to our hotel in Monterey, where we will spend the rest of the week.

Goodbye my friends, see you in 7 days…

PS: For this race in America, there is special design from the Fiat Yamaha Team and I have a surprise for you all.
