Alonzo Bodden: Faster and Funnier – Part 2
Here’s Part 2 of our interview with American comedian and fellow petrol-head Alonzo Bodden, host of the new TV show “America’s Worst Driver.”
Here’s the link to Part 1 in case you missed it.
When did you first start following motorbike racing?
Alonzo Bodden: I think it was 2000 when Nicky Hayden was racing AMA Superbike.
What series do you follow (MotoGP, WSBK, AMA, etc)?
Alonzo Bodden: I love World Superbike; I think its the most competitive and they are just banging bars and elbows. I love it. MotoGP is great and I love going to the races in Laguna and Indy but sometimes it’s just a parade. I can’t wait until they get back on the 1000’s. MotoGP has the best umbrella girls, no question.
AMA or DMG or whatever it’s called now is a mess. I go to races and support the Jordan team because I’ve been lucky enough to meet some of the guys working on the team but they need to straighten the racing out. I’d love to see them adopt World Superbike rules and bikes. I went to the Indy Mile a couple of years ago. The craziest baddest ballsiest racing I ever saw. Loved it.
What races have you attended personally?
Alonzo Bodden: I go to the MotoGP round at Laguna Seca every year. I’ve been to Indy MotoGP and Miller World Superbike . I love all of these races and if my work schedule permits I go. I actually schedule the weekends off but sometimes I get an offer I can’t refuse (meaning more that 100 bucks). I also go to Fontana and Infineon AMA Superbike races when I can.
Do you have any favourite riders that you follow?
Alonzo Bodden: I’m loving Ben Spies. I’m also a Hayden fan and I like Colin Edwards because he seems to have a sense of humor. I love Rossi in the same way people love Jordan He’s the GOAT plain and simple. I’d love to see Haga win a championship because he works so hard and has been doing it so long.
Have you ever tried riding on a track?
Alonzo Bodden: I’m somewhere in the middle of the pack in Group 2 (Intermediates) on track days. I like ‘em but I’m no expert. I’ve ridden Fontana, Willow Springs , Buttonwillow and went to the Freddie Spenser school in Vegas. I have friends who are definitely experts and at the front of the pack in Group 3 (Racer). I don’t know if I’ll get there so the back of my leathers say ” the older I get the faster I was”.
